Wislizenus in Waltershausen, Thuringia, in 1851. Initially, the company made paper maché dolls. Adolf Wislizenus joined the firm in 1870, and by 1878, he was the sole owner. During Wislizenus’ tenure, the company made a full line of toys, including clockwork and mechanical animals, games, children’s furniture, and more. They produced wax doll heads and kid and composition bodies for the bisque heads they purchased from Simon & Halbig and Bähr & Pröschild. William Heinecke took over the business in 1894 but kept the Wislizenus name. That same year, the company registered a design patent for a new body style with legs that continued up through the hip area. Over the next several years, they continued to make improvements in jointing and the manufacturing process. In 1909, Hans Heinecke became the new owner. After 1910, the bisque doll heads were purchased from Ernst Heubach and Armand Marseille. In the following decade, Wislizenus followed the current fashion and made baby dolls with character faces. In the 1920s, the company developed walking and crying dolls. The firm declared bankruptcy in 1931. unquote
